Bishop Jonas Ivanauskas was born on February 18, 1960 in Kaunas. He was baptized on March 15, 1960 in the Resurrection of Christ church in Kaunas.
In 1971 he has graduated from a secondary school nr. 29 of Kaunas and entered the Interdiocesan seminary of Kaunas. After several months in the seminary he was conscripted to a military service.
Back from the army in autumn 1980 he continued his studies and spiritual formation at the seminary of Kaunas. On March 4, 1984 he received the Holy order of diaconate and on April 14, 1985 - sacerdotal ordination. On May 31, 1985 he has graduated from the Faculty of theology-philosophy of Kaunas, receiving a degree of bachelor in theology.
1985-1987 he worked as a parochial vicar in Raseiniai, while continuing his studies for the licence in theology of the Faculty of theology-philosophy and acquiring degree of licence in theology on May 27, 1987.
In 1987-1988 he worked as a parochial vicar at the Holy Cross church of Kaunas, while lecturing at the Faculty of theology-philosophy. In 1988-1989 he was a prefect of the seminary.
In 1990-1992 he studied moral theology at the Alfonsianum Academy of the Pontifical Lateran university in Rome.
From autumn 1992 lectures at the Faculty of Catholic theology of the University of Vytautas the Great in Kaunas. On November 11, 1994 the Senate of University conferred him a pedagogical degree of associated professor.
Since 1994 member of the Lithuanian Bible society.
1997-2002 Head of the Department of special theology of the Faculty of Catholic theology of the University of Vytautas the Great.
Im January 2002 Archbishop Sigitas Tamkevičius appointed him Vicar general of the Archdiocese of Kaunas.
2005-2014 Chairman of the Council for the Apostolate of the laity of the Lithuanian Bishops' Conference.
On February 11, 2012 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Kaišiadorys. He made his solemn entrance into the Cathedral of Kaišiadorys on March 25, 2012.
In 2014-2017 - chairman of the Commission for Education matters of the Lithuanian Bishops' Conference.
On November 20, 2017 he was also elected the chairman of the LBC Council for Relations with Polish Bishops‘ Conference.
